Ten Foods To Avoid If you have Stomach Ulcer

Related image

Stomach Ulcer Occurs when a wound develops in the stomach.  The wound may occur at different points  sometimes unknown to the individual.    Many people move about freely known to them that they have stomach ulcer until there is a major crisis sometimes occasioned by the food they ate either fried food or infected food.

So many factors could lead to the unset of stomach ulcer,  Before now, it was believed that lack of food in the stomach is the only cause of ulcers,  but today we know that ulcer could be caused by many things including stress.

Major causes include:

- Insufficient protein in the diet over a long period of time
  Too much fasting
  Too much acidic Foods
  Too much medications
  Bacteria infestation such as typhoid
Too much stress and many other factors

Common Signs of Stomach Ulcer

Bloating
Heartburn
Loss of appetite for a long time
Burning in the upper abdomen with pain, particularly between meals
Frequent Indigestion
Feeling sharp pains minutes after taken acidic fruits like orange juice, lime or lemon
Nausea and
Sometimes vomiting

However, whatever  be the cause of the ulcer, we know that it is curable and could heal overtime if the causative factor is removed and adequate nutrition introduced.   If you suspect that you have stomach ulcer then avoid these foods:

1.  Caffeine

This is found mainly in coffee, black teas, green tea, cocoa and its products, bitter cola and other foods.  When we talk of caffeine we  not usually put our minds on teas like coffee alone, there are also natural foods with high caffeine content like bitter cola.  Caffeine are stressors and would not create environment for healing of ulcers

2.  Carbonated Drinks

If you are a lover of canned fruit juice drinks, then its time to stop, if you suspect there is a wound in your stomach, why?  They do not provide environment for healing and will rather feed the ulcer to get worse sometimes with complications.

3.  Avoid Too Much Spice

If you love spicy foods like hot peppers, gingers, etc, then it is time for moderation, because they will hurt your wound.  Though after some time, you will need to restore them to your meals because they are healing foods and helps reduce further inflammations to avoid complications

4.  Reduce Medications

Except you have been placed on anti acids, which gives only temporary relief,  but really would not be recommended for total healing of the ulcer.  Apart from that, all other medications will increase your pain and create more stress around the ulcer.  Particularly synthetic blood tonics are among the worst offenders, because they are inflammatory and cause more pain.

5.  Reduce Teas and Blood Thinning Foods

Stay away from all forms of teas temporarily until the ulcer shows signs of healing.  Most teas are blood Thinners.  I have personally observed that even when milk is added, it does not remove completely the sharpness of the teas on the intestines.  Fermented grains like millet and sorghum are more soothing

6. Reduce Salt

Too much salt especially table salt are stressors and does not help the wound to heal.

7. Hydrogenated Fats

It hurts to eat fatty foods like peanut when ulcers are fresh, apart from coconut oil and red palm oil which offers relief with the help of saturated fats which helps to sooth the wound, all other fats like butters are stressors and does not enhance wound healing

8.  Hot Foods

If your ulcer is fresh, please allow all foods to cool first, because hot foods will further hurt the wound.  Though warm foods are best for you, but during cases of ulcer, the stomach would rather prefer cold foods on the already irritated wound.

9.  Inflammatory Foods

Avoid inflammatory foods like soyabeans when your ulcer is fresh.  These are healthy foods but not during a fresh ulcer wound.  Inflammatory foods includes biscuits, too much bread, sweets, and other processed foods. They all hurt the more.

10.  Fried Foods

If you have pains anywhere in your stomach and suspect ulcer, please stay away from fried foods at all cost, it is one of the most offensive foods during fresh ulcers and must be avoided completely

If  all these are avoided and sufficient clean water, whole foods and rest are employed, the good news is that the ulcer would naturally heal completely and you may return some of the foods you temporarily removed due to the ulcer condition.  Complications of ulcers arise when you are ignorant of the presence of ulcer in your stomach and continue to feed it with wrong foods such as fried varieties, caffeine etc.

The nutrition of pumpkin seeds improves with age. They are among the few foods that increase in nutritive value as they decompose.  According to tests made at Massachusetts experimental station, squash and pumpkin seeds stored for  more than five months showed  a marked increase in protein content.

Egusi is made up of 30 to 40% protein and about the same proportion of oil.  The oil is cholesterol.  They contain  lots of antioxidants  and a decent amount of polyunsaturated fatty acids potassium, B2 and folate.

1.  Contains Zinc Needed for Fertility

Low zinc levels  are associated with reduced sperm quality  and an increased risk of infertility in men and women.  Consuming pumpkin seeds regularly may therefore increase fertility and particularly improve sperm quality and mobility.  Evidence from one study in mice suggests they may also help protect human sperm from damage caused by chemotherapy and autoimmune diseases.  They are also high in antioxidants  and other nutrients that can contribute to healthy testosterone levels and  improved overall health and fertility.

2.  Natural B Vitamin Source

These seeds are excellent source of  Vitamin B  Complex sources.  They contain thiamin, niacin, folate, riboflavin, pantothenic acid, and Pyridoxine. These nutrients are needed for healthy nervous system and blood flow, which ultimately keeps the cardiovascular organ healthy. Regular consumption of the seeds is like taking B vitamin supplement.

3.  Prostate Health

The Oil that is found in these seeds can help fight hyperplasia or prostate enlargement.  It contains antioxidants and phytochemicals that reduce free radical activity and prevent the formation of cancer.

4.  Reduce Menopause symptoms

These seeds  have been proven to  relieve symptoms of menopause .  They regulate hot flushes, headaches, reduce joint pains and reduce the frequency of mood swings.  They have also been proven to improve good cholesterol and regulate blood pressure.

6.  Plant Based Omega 3 Fats

Omega 3 fatty acids is a rare nutrient not found in many foods, though it is needed for a healthy body particularly for stronger bones, memory and general well being.  Consuming egusi regularly will supply you with this rare but im portant nutrient needed by the body

7. High in Magnesium

Pumpkin seeds are one of the best natural source of magnesium.  Magnesium is needed for more than 600 chemical reactions in the body most importantly, the heart and blood pressure.

8.  Packed with protein

If you are looking for protein from plant source, then consider egusi.  Especially for muscle builders.  Proteins are essential.  Regular intake of this seed will help reduce cases of protein deficiency and diseases associated with it.

9.   Essential Amino Acids

Amino acids which are not readily available in the body like arginine and lysine, have to be obtained from other sources.  Egusi seeds are a great source of these amino acids.  Arginine helps in regulating metabolism and improves the cardiovascular system.  Lysine helps in the formation of collagen  and connective tissues in the body.

10.  Anti Aging

Egusi contains  antioxidants like niacin which  makes skin healthy and young and helps prevent aging.  Consuming egusi seeds or applying the oil will help keep your skin healthy and glowing naturally.

11  Cholesterol

It is hard to believe that a fatty seed like pumpkin seeds will contribute to cholesterol reduction, but studies  have found that they can actually reduce bad cholesterol and increase the good ones.  They also reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease, blood clots, stroke and heart attack.

12. Diabetes

Due to the fact that pumpkin seeds are rich in healthy unsaturated fats, regular inclusion into our diet is recommended for people suffering from diabetes.  They contribute in regulating the body's blood sugar levels and increasing the body's sensitivity to insulin.

13  Prevents bone problem

People who have a zinc deficiency are susceptible to osteoporosis,  Eating just a quarter cup of pumpkin seeds can give you about 17% of your daily recommended amount of zinc, which you need to help build strong bones.  This is particularly important for women.

They are easy to incorporate into your meals like using them in your soups, stews,  sprinkling  them into your salads or cereals to improve protein.  Some use it in baking.  Remember also that egusi is a source of palmitic acid like red palm oil.  So preparing your egusi with plenty of red palm oil will definitely increase calorie and may not favour those aiming to clear clogged arteries.  Better to add onions, garlic and peppers to reduce the effect of the this ugly side of melon seed.

Is Coconut Oil Good For High Blood Pressure?

COCONUT OIL AND ITS BENEFITS

More and more facts are emerging pointing to the fact that truly, Coconut oil is the healthiest oil both for managing ailments like diabetes and blood pressure  and staying healthy naturally.  The Power and secret of this oil is mainly in its saturated fat content which was misconstrued over the years to be bad for our health. Yes, we all agree that saturated fat is bad for our health however the one found in coconut oil has been found to be healthy.

Truly speaking, there is a lot of confusion  and contradictions on the subject of saturated fats, even among health care professionals.  The fact remains that all saturated fats are not created equal.  Some saturated fats are occurring naturally, while other fats are artificially manipulated into a saturated state through a man-made process called Hydrogenation.

About 50% of fats found in coconut oil is rarely found in nature such as lauric acid.  Lauric acid is a powerful virus and gram negative bacterial destroyer and coconut oil is said to contain the most lauric acid of any substance on earth.  Another important substances in coconut oil are papric acid and medium chain fatty acids.  These are what make up the saturated fats in coconut oil.

Coconut oil has numerous health benefits such  as Weight loss, antibacterial, antifungal,  antiviral, anti inflammatory and  antimicrobial properties.  These all work together to make it popular as both food and medicine, great for ulcers, boils, staph infections, Gingivities, dental cavities, Ear infections, neurological disorders, trauma, yeast infections, digestive health, liver problems you just name the disease.   However, one of the aspects that makes coconut  oil so unique especially for diabetes is the fact that it does not produce insulin spike in your blood stream., another of its best benefits  lies in its ability to help stimulate your metabolism.  Now with all these benefits, does it affect blood pressure positively or negatively is the big question before us now.  Firstly let us look at what blood pressure is.

What is Blood Pressure?

According to one of our trusted websites www.livestrong.com.  "Blood pressure is caused by the restricted flow of blood through narrow arteries, This restriction causes the heart to pump harder and at a faster rate giving it a little time to rest.  Consistent blood pressure causes the heart to weaken and even close completely."  Normal blood pressure is 120/70 anything higher requires attention and monitoring.

Causes of Blood Pressure

Definitely some cause may be attributed to worry and other factors, however the most common factors responsible for raised blood pressure are poor diet, family history, obesity, stress and general lifestyle such as doing a sedentary job with little or no exercise.  Apart from prescription medications, there is not much a physician can do after prescription to lower the blood pressure, the next and best is to rely on God and follow proper nutrition more of plant source and moderate exercise.

IS COCONUT OIL GOOD FOR BLOOD PRESSURE?

One important nutrient to take seriously when managing blood pressure is the oil, the type and effect of the oil consumed by the person is so important and critical in managing blood pressure, we all know that olive oil is good for blood pressure, however coconut oil is another oil being studied due to its positive effect on the entire body, blood vessels, arteries, and bacteria and parasites.

Coconut oil is a Top  Yeast Destroyer

No matter what ails you, the presence of yeast in the body will make the condition worse, this includes blood pressure and the activity of blood vessels and arteries.  The ability of coconut oil to kill yeast and bacteria and reduce their activity is definitely a plus for blood pressure sufferers.

Coconut Oil Improves Metabolism

Both diabetics and blood pressure cases will benefit positively from this benefit.  A good metabolism will reduce the body's ability to store fat.  If the body does not store fat, then the incidence of obesity will be reduced thereby reducing overall pressure on the blood vessels and arteries.

Coconut Oil Contains Medium Chain Fatty Acids

The consumption of polyunsaturated fat, such as omega 6 found in soyabeans  and other vegetable oils causes your blood vessels to constrict, however the omega 3  fatty acids in coconut oil  do not have the same effect, infact, they widen your blood vessels and relieves inflammations of the arteries.

No Fear of Heart Disease

Multiple studies on pacific Island populations who get 30% - 60% of their total calories intake from fully saturated coconut oil have all shown nearly non existent rates of cardiovascular diseases.

Research in Favour of Coconut oil on Blood Pressure

According to Sciencedaily.om, Researchers working at the Biotechnology Centre at the Federal University of Paraiba set out to test the hypothesis that a combination of daily coconut oil and exercise training will restore baroreflex sensitivity and reduce oxidative stress resulting in reduction in blood pressure.  They published their findings in the Journal Applied Physiology,  Nutrition and  Metabolism.

Their experiments were performed on Spontaneously hypertensive rats. They found that both coconut oil and exercise training  were able to reduce weight compared to rats that were given saline and were not exposed to the exercise training protocol along the five weeks of study.

Including coconut oil or exercise was shown to reduce blood pressure, only combined coconut oil and exercise training  were able to bring the blood pressure back to normotensive values according to the research, The reduction in blood pressure  caused by the combination of the coconut oil supplementation and exercise training might be explained by the improvement in  the reduced baroreflex sensitivity and by the reduction in oxidative stress in the serum heart and aorta.

In Conclusion, Coconut oil when used moderately will definitely show a more positive effect towards managing blood pressure as against other oils.

It is important to add that heat and sunlight overtime can make coconut oil go rancid,  The toxins that develops as a result of the exposure  isvsaid to be more deadly that omega 6 containing oils.  Better to be used withing few months of purchase and or store away from heat and sunlight.

Health Benefits of Green Tea

Related image

The weather is quite cold even in Lagos known for extreme heat. At such times as this, it is necessary to keep the body warm always with adequate circulation. During cold, circulations throughout the body is impaired especially among the elderly. Here is one natural drink to raise your antioxidants level, boost circulation and with numerous other health benefits, its a popular tea, Green Tea.

Here are some of its health benefits

Green tea has been used as a medicine for thousands of years, originating in China but widely used throughout Asia this beverage has a multitude of uses from lowering blood pressure to preventing cancer. The reason that green tea has more health benefits attached to it than black tea is (apparently) due to the processing. Black tea is processed in a way that allows for fermentation whereas green tea’s processing avoids the fermentation process. As a result, green tea retains maximum amount of antioxidants and poly-phenols the substances that give green tea its many benefits.
Here’s a list of some of its amazing benefits — Some of these benefits are still being debated, so please do your own research if you want to use green tea for medicinal purposes.

1.Weight Loss.

Green tea increases the metabolism. The polyphenol found in green tea works to intensify levels of fat oxidation and the rate at which your body turns food into calories.

2. Diabetes.

Green tea apparently helps regulate glucose levels slowing the rise of blood sugar after eating. This can prevent high insulin spikes and resulting fat storage.

3.Heart Disease.

Scientists think, green tea works on the lining of blood vessels, helping keep them stay relaxed and better able to withstand changes in blood pressure. It may also protect against the formation of clots, which are the primary cause of heart attacks.

4. Esophageal Cancer.

It can reduce the risk of esophageal cancer, but it is also widely thought to kill cancer cells in general without damaging the healthy tissue around them.

5.Cholesterol.

Green tea reduces bad cholesterol in the blood and improves the ratio of good cholesterol to bad cholesterol.

6.  Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s Disease

It is said to delay the deterioration caused by Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. Studies carried out on mice showed that green tea protected brain cells from dying and restored damaged brain cells.

7.Tooth Decay.

Studies suggests that the chemical antioxidant “catechin” in tea can destroy bacteria and viruses that cause throat infections, dental caries and other dental conditions

8. Blood Pressure.

Regular consumption of green tea is thought to reduce the risk of high blood pressure.

9. Depression.

Theanine is an amino acid naturally found in tea leaves. It is this substance that is thought to provide a relaxing and tranquilizing effect and be a great benefit to tea drinkers.

 10. Tea catechins

These are strong antibacterial and antiviral agents which make them effective for treating everything from influenza to cancer. In some studies green tea has been shown to inhibit the spread of many diseases.

11. Skincare.

Green tea can apparently also help with wrinkles and the signs of aging, This is because of their antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities. Both animal and human studies have demonstrated that green tea applied topically can reduce sun damage.

Though there is little caffeine in green, but the antioxidant benefits far outweigh the little caffeine content. So why not include it in your diet this season, it will also increase your fluid intake which is also vital for good health.

We will continue to emphasis on oils, because they are so important in moderating our immune response and unfortunately, many are not even aware of this, we bring the health benefits of peanut oil again emphasis on the need for you to re-evaluate the oils you are consuming. Are they laden with preservatives and other flavors that suppress your immune system?.

Here are the health benefits of peanut oil. I personally use it in most of my cooking involving such oils.

Peanut plant is a low growing, annual plant belonging to the family of Fabaceae (Leguminosae) of the genus: Arachis, and botanically named as Arachis hypogaea. Some of the common names are groundnut, earthnut, goober, pinder, and ground pea. In addition to pressing for oil, peanut kernels are eaten fresh or roasted and are used in cooking and confectionery as well.

Physical characteristics of Peanut Oil

Cold pressed peanut oil has deep yellow color with pleasant nutty aroma and sweet taste. Refined oil is light yellow and has the neutral taste. However, refining makes it virtually devoid of impurities and allergens. Its specific gravity @ 25 °C is 912-0.920, Iodine value-84–100, and saponification value-185–195.

Peanut oil nutrition facts

Peanut oil is high in energy; 100 g oil provides 884 calories.
It is one of the cooking oils with a high smoke point; 450 °F. The property can be employed in setting oil temperatures while deep-frying food items. Peanut oil has very good lipid profile. It has saturated, monounsaturated and polyunsaturated (SFA: MUFA: PUFA= 18: 49: 33) fats in healthy proportions.
It is one of the stable cooking oils; having a long shelf life.

Health benefits of Peanut oil

Wonderfully pleasant, sweet-flavored peanut oil is low in saturated fats, free from cholesterol, contains essential fatty acid ( linoleic acid (omega-6)) making it as one of the healthiest cooking oils.
Being a vegetable oil, it is a good source of plant sterols, especially β-sitosterol. The FDA has approved the following claim for phytosterols: “Foods containing at least 0.4 gram per serving of plant sterols, eaten twice a day with meals for a daily total intake of at least 0.8 gram, as part of a diet low in saturated fat and cholesterol, may reduce the risk of heart disease.” Phyto-sterols competitively inhibit cholesterol absorption in the gut and thereby can reduce cholesterol levels by 10% to 15%.

Peanut oil is high in calories. Its high-calorie value is because of fatty acids. Nonetheless, the oil is especially rich in mono-unsaturated fatty acids (MUFA) like oleic acid (18:1) that helps to lower LDL or “bad cholesterol” and increases HDL or “good cholesterol” in the blood. Research studies suggest that Mediterranean diet that is enriched with monounsaturated fatty acids help to prevent coronary artery disease and strokes by favoring healthy blood lipid profile.
Peanut oil contains reversterol, a polyphenol antioxidant, which has been found to have protective function against cancers, heart disease, degenerative nerve disease, Alzheimer’s disease, and viral/fungal infections.

Studies suggests that resverstrol cut stroke risk by alteration of molecular mechanisms in blood vessels (reducing susceptibility to vascular damage through decreased activity of angiotensin, a systemic hormone causing blood vessel constriction that would elevate blood pressure) and by increasing production of the vasodilator hormone, nitric oxide.

Peanut oil contains valuable amounts of anti-oxidant vitamin E. 100 g fresh oil has 15.69 mg of alpha-tocopherol and 15.91 mg of gamma-tocopherol. Vitamin E is a powerful lipid soluble antioxidant, required for maintaining the integrity of cell membrane of mucus membranes and skin by protecting it from harmful oxygen-free radicals.

In addition to being a vegetable source, peanut oil is also an ideal choice for deep-frying because it can be heated to a higher temperature (smoke point -450 °F). This results in lower oil retention in the fried foods.

My Testimony, How my Aching Tooth and Cavity Healed Naturally - Part 2

A continuation of the previous post on natural foods and actions that reversed my aching tooth and receding gum.  It is necessary to share this to enable those going through similar condition to get some hints on what to do and to be assured again that no disease is irreversible All  the body is asking for is the right building material.  So Let us go.

More of the foods that helped me heal:

5.  Clove oil

Yes clove oil is great for tooth ache and gum problems but, it usually does not last for long.  Good enough clove oil was in my custody, guess what?  I used clean cotton wool with a few drops and pressed hard on the gum when it hurts.  Clove oil contains anti inflammatory properties, so it relieved the pain and inflammations, however when I discovered that, it is best for symptomatic relief, it was discontinued, however it has contributed a little in relieving pain and inflammations arising from the aching gum and tooth.

6.  Fresh Ginger and Fresh Turmeric with Sorghum Tea

Now we are all getting the awareness that Turmeric and Ginger are anti inflammatory foods that work best together.  They are great for killing pains.  They were crushed each morning with a tablespoon of  raw honey.  Now what is the place of sorghum in this combo.  The addition of sorghum by me in the hot tea is to provide more B vitamins and Iron.  When tackling a matter such as this, there is need to ensure that your system is getting sufficient iron and B vitamins.  The bacteria that worked to destroy the cavity did not leave the blood out of it, some were destroyed in the process and without sufficient iron from a natural  plant source such as the sorghum tea, it may be difficult for oxygen to be pumped around continuously.

Without sufficient iron, your body cannot win the fight.    Low fat milk is also added for extra calcium to support the teeth and gum, however the mouth is rinsed with warm water having some dried peppermint tea leaves in it immediately after the breakfast to hinder the bacteria from feeding on the milk since they love milk and milk is mildly inflammatory.  This breakfast is energizing and helps me get on during the day.  The idea is that while the ginger and turmeric are dealing with bacteria, fungus, pains and inflammations, the turmeric enriches the blood and strengthens the liver as well. Food is truly medicine.

7.  Green Tea

Green tea is known for its high antioxidants and polyphenols content, though it is also a moderate source of caffeine which is not a friend of pains.  However in considering the positive effect of green tea in preventing plague formation around the gums, though I had abandoned green tea for some reasons, however I had to revert to this low calorie beverage which obviously will do me more good than harm.  Green tea has strong anti inflammatory properties and nutrients that supports gum health.  It became necessary to go back to my green tea, though a little milk and honey was added which usually would reduce its efficacy, but never mind,  its my way.

8.  Avocado Fruit

Avocado fruit is known for its versatility in tackling most diseases,  it is a nutrient dense food and notorious for staffing bacteria and virus, it was not left out, usually employed in the morning so as to provide energy for the day.  Bread was a No No.  All sugary foods were No No, but you wont believe, I still pinched on some slices for my tea with more avocadoes.  Avocados are loaded with healthy fats that helps burn fat like coconut oil,  When tackling any ailments, the type and source of fat must be given serious consideration.  These are the protective membrane and without good fats such as avocados and coconut oil fat, the immune system could be wrecked.  Fats are an important part of any healing regimen for  energy and protection.  If you leave all fats out of your diet, you may never be healed.

9.  Fish Oil :

Not really a fan of supplements, but the inclusion of occasional supplement became necessary because of the need for vitamin and D which are critical nutrients for healing of the tooth and gum,  without vitamin D, even calcium which is needed for stronger teeth  cannot be fully absorbed.  Got me a good fish oil.  but not a daily inclusion but say every other day, as these nutrients were necessary and seemed insufficient. Usually taken in the morning on days, that I considered necessary to take them-

10.  Plenty of water and Hot fluid:

The efficacy of water therapy in the morning in helping us regain our internal balance is no longer a new topic.  First thing in the morning, I go 5 glasses of water in empty stomach before brushing my tooth.  Though this has been a long practice observed religiously by the entire family, but occasionally we reduce our strictness on the therapy,  but when you have a matter on hand, then there is need for strict compliance.  No compromise, but this time, it has to be warm.  The difference is that it must be warm, if your tooth and gum hurts, definitely cold water and cold food will make them hurt you the more.  Never attempt iced or cold food if you have issues with your teeth and gum.

To be continued.  In my next post, I want to share just few foods that were loved but temporarily dropped during this period and why they were dropped.  Though, they are healthy foods but in the circumstance, their nutrients were not needed and there was need for them to be out of the way until healing and recovery was achieved.

Here are the Secrets of How My Aching Tooth and Receding Gum Healed Naturally

Image result for toothache and gum disease

Just thought to share the secret of how I regained my health, healed my painful tooth and recovered  my  receding gum naturally.  You never value what you have until you loose it.  It is necessary to maintain regular dental hygiene because getting an aching tooth healed with gums is usually not easy It requires a lot of patience, discipline and total change of habit.

The tooth and gum are very important organs doing so much, but very often neglected.  It is our natural grinder/blender from the time we started taking solid foods till death.  It is therefore important to always maintain habits that will promote the health of our teeth and gums;  So many factors could lead to painful tooth and gums, when it occurs in children, we usually attribute it to sugar. Truly speaking, most cases of ache and gum issues are linked to excess sugar or carbs.  When it occurs in the mature adult and elderly, it is usually the same and when it persists, then other suspects will be looked out for, such as diabetes, inflammations etc.

Mine own case was not far from these factors over indulgence in sugars and stress worsen the situation which lingered for about 4 weeks until I took these drastic steps.

Here are the Natural Ingredients and things I did to regain my aching tooth and recover my receding gum:

1.  Temporarily disconnect from Bread, biscuits, pastries and all white Carbs

Yes, one may wonder how come she still consumes all these, at what age mid fifties, yes, Like I always advice friends, no food is forbidden in my list, but moderation must be maintained.  It became necessary to discontinue with these category of carbs temporarily so as to regain my healing first.  Knowledge we are told is power. Until you discover, you may never recover.  You need to discover and believe that most diseases that ail us today are made worse by these category of carbs.   These foods hurts if you suffer pain.  They make your pain worse, no matter the location of the pain whether internally or external.   I had to do away with them first until I get better.

2.  Instituted Strict dental hygiene

This is simply saying that I refused to be careless anymore, brushing after each meal became as serious as the meal itself.  Why was this necessary, it became necessary because I was aware that bacteria and germs feeds on the food we eat too.  So after each meal, they must be starved especially the ones living in the mouth, while the internal organs are fed, these germs around the gums and mouth must be starved.  It is no longer news that most disease will naturally reverse if their food is withdrawn over a period of time.  Same applies to most diseases that ail us apart from the tooth and gum.  These bacteria must not grow fat.  So I made a decision to starve the bacteria living in my gums and ensure they do not have access to sugar and food as this will stop them from growing and will lead to their final death.  The mouth is usually kept germ free with a final rinse with warm peppermint tea after every meal.  This is to starve the bacteria and keep inflammations under control.

3.  I Got Some Essential Oils

Essential oils are gradually gaining more popularity by the day due to their positive roles in restoring health especially among the elderly folk.  Here are the essential oils and other natural ingredients that helped me out:

These are the oils that were employed during the period of tackling the tooth ache that would have sent me to a dentist.

Mint Oil:

The Mint oil is a very powerful and popular essential oil,  how did I use it, truly there are several home remedies out there on the net but I did not try most of them because, some were not convenient.  The mint oil was used as an inhaler in the mouth to reduce pain and aches when out there  wither at work or shopping, it was handy, occasionally the mint oil was dabbed in a cotton wool and pressed at the point of the pain.

Tee Tree oil

Before now, it was unknown to me that this oil reduces aches and pains. was actually using it with honey for acne and soon discovered it was killing pains and reducing inflammations inside of my mouth where the gum and tooth is,there I go, tee tree oil was included.  Each morning, the oil in a mixture of organic honey was used to press and massage hard on the side of the mouth where the pain is located, it was working to reduce pain and bacteria activity, So it was included and was working.

Cold Pressed Coconut oil

This appears to be the most interesting and enduring of all the remedies, I had to suspend all other oils in my cooking and retained this oil as it was working both internally and on the tooth.  Cold Pressed coconut oil was killing off the yeast build up that was feeding the pains and discomforting me. The cold was reducing inflammations at all levels.  The lauric acid was killing other opportunistic bacteria that were around to aid the infection.  The medium chain fatty acid aided digestion and absorption easy during the period.  Bacteria and yeast infestation was partly responsible for the problem from the onset.  This miracle oil was always the last thing before bed time and usually the first thing in the morning before brushing with toothpaste.  Cold pressed coconut oil is high in saturated fat, but not all fats are bad.  The fat in coconut oil actually is a disease fighter.  It was used usually  once in the morning,  a tablespoon of this oil is used to hold in the mouth for about 7 minutes and later power out.  This rinsing of mouth with coconut oil was actually the first  step in the treatment when the pain was sore.  When you have a gum that huts, almost everything huts except coconut oil.    The disease fighting saturated fat in coconut oil protects and soothes.  It is a soothing oil, it was my first line of treatment and actually the last.   When the tooth and gum hurts so much, acidic foods and drinks, lime etc, infact, most remedies will hurt except coconut oil.

Garlic:

Garlic oil or fresh garlic cloves is a powerful antibiotic which most bacteria are not able to resist.  So, at the time of severe pain which almost affected my sleep,  no analgesic was used throughout the period, instead, a clove of fresh garlic was crushed and inserted inside the cavity which hurts most and there it laid till dawn, if not, the pains and bacteria activity will disturb sleep and if sleep does not take place, healing will be delayed or hindered completely.  So it went, usually waking up refreshed and pain free.  this happened 4 days until the inflammation was abated.  Thanks to the anti inflammatory and antibacterial properties  of garlic.  Thanks also to allicin and its sulphur content.  Above all, garlic is a top yeast killing food that helps improve most pains that are linked to bacteria and fungus.  So never leave garlic out of your kitchen

To be Continued  on Part two,  Other steps that helped hasten the healing will also be shared in the course of this testimony

Health Benefits of Ugba (African Oil Bean Seed)

Been searching for more plant sources of protein to increase my protein intake and thought of Ugba.  (African Oil bean Seed)  Truly there are just  few foods in our market that are closer to organic than having additives and this happen to be one of them.

The tree is a native of tropical Africa region and has been cultivated since 1937.  This nutrient packed food has been neglected and under exploited over the years.  The crop actually belong to the leguminasae family and the mimosoidae subfamily. They present in dark brown pods quite hard and woody in appearance.  The glossy brown seeds are the most widely used part of the plant, usually about eight in number are contained in a flattened pod that explodes when fully matured for consumption dispersing the seeds all over the environment where the tree is planted. Igbos call it Ugba or Ukpaka, Yorubas of Western Nigeria call it Apara, while the Efik tribe call it Ukana.

This often ignored nutrient seede is a source of protein about 44% which is high in my estimation also a source of important minerals like calcium, magnesium, manganese, phosporus, iron, copper  as well as excellent source of phytonutrients, sterols glycosides and saponins, however fermentation process which it must undergo before consumption reduces some of these nutrients and phytonutrients.

Here are More Reasons to include Ugba into your diet

1.  Good Plant source of Protein

Protein is known as our body's building block, it is therefore important to ensure we get sufficient protein daily into our diet.  Unfortunately, many are not bothered about this and the result is usually a weakened and suppressed immune system.  One way I have devised to include this protein rich food to my soup is by pounding or blending is with spices to add  as a thickener to my soups thereby increasing its protein content different from meat.  It also provide a low cost of protein for those who cannot afford meat or those who are avoiding meat for health reasons.

 2.  Anti Inflammatory properties

It is important we work daily to include as many such foods as possible into our diet, anti inflammatory foods helps ward off inflammatory diseases like arthritis and other bone problems, additionally problems like stomach ulcers, tookache, joint pains are better managed with an anti inflammatory diet including protein sources like ugba.

3.  Helps in treating Insomnia

The place of good nights sleep towards total wellness cannot be overemphasized.  More studies today are showing that more and more people are suffering insomnia, being the inability to sleep refreshingly especially at night over a period of time.  Including the paste of this seed in your soups especially towards the even towards the evening helps resolve this problem.

4.  Great For Anaemia

An interesting aspect of Ugba which actually drew me closer is its ability to boost the body's haemoglobin content.  Naturally get sufficient iron is far better than resorting the blood synthetic blood tonics that are mostly inflammatory.  So if you are working to getting more iron naturally, then go for Ugba.

5.  Healthy Heart

According to buzznigeria.com, Researchers in Africa discovered that the fermented seed of 'African oil bean could be used  to prevent and cure heart failure.  Being a source of magnesium, the fermented seed is good for maintaining a healthy heart beat.

6.  Fertility

The fermented seeds  are used in preparing herbal medicines for treating fertility.  Including the fermented seeds to our soups is also a great way to boost fertility.

7.  Cholesterol Reduction

The seed is rich in Saponins, which have been proven effective for reducing plasma Cholesterol, however, it is important to note that saponins are toxic when taken in excess.

8.  Cataract Prevention

Research is showing that eating the fermented seeds regularly may reduce the likelihood of developing cataract.  Cataract prevents by clouding of the eyes natural lens, which lies behind the iris and the pupil varying in degree from slight to complete opacity and obstructing the passage of light.

9.  Cancer Prevention

Studies in Nigeria is showing that African oil bean  seed  has the capability of reducing cancer growth.  A comparative study carried out in Nigeria revealed that cancer patients who ate fermented African oil bean seeds during the research period recorded a great reduction in cancer risks and growth unlike those who did not.

It is important to note that saponins in excess may be toxic and fermenting the seeds before consumption is the best and safest way to access the nutrients.  Adding this foods is
also a great way to ensure occasional probiotics in your cut which helps maintain a healthy gut.
