Your teeth and gums are important part of your body, just like other organs, specific nutrients are required by different parts of your body to enable them perform optimally. The same applies to the teeth and gum . Let us look at the various nutrients needed by your teeth and gum and which foods contain them. It is always better to resort to natural ways in all our efforts to staying healthy.
Here are the Nutrients needed by your teeth and gum in order to stay healthy:
Calcium rich foods
Foods rich in Vitamin C
Vitamin D rich foods
Probiotics containing foods
Foods high in antioxidants
Foods rich in anthocyanins, polyphenols and arginine
Foods high in Water
With the above at the back of our minds, let us see some foods that are healthy for our teeth and gums
1. Milk
Yes, milk is being tagged bad these days almost in everything and everyway, but none will deny the fact that one of the richest and cheapest source of absorb able calcium today is milk, whether dry, liquid and full cream. They are all good sources of calcium needed by our teeth right from childhood till old age. The reason I refuse to agree with persons who advise that in the pursuit of today's wellness theories, we should abandon milk. Milk is healthy, milk is a biblical food, milk is required by children in higher amount, truly the older we grow the less milk we need, but total abstinence from milk is still a wonder to me. From where then do we get all the calcium for our teeth and gums. Other sources of calcium are cheese, yorghut, soyabeans, millet, green foods like moringa etc.
2. Oranges and Pineapples
These are good sources of vitamin C to help us maintain a healthy teeth and gum

A surprise I believe, yes, black coffee is tagged a bad guy by many due to caffeine, but research is showing that black coffee is not bad altogether but may be helpful in keeping your teeth and gum health due to its high antioxidant and bitter taste. Of course if sweets are bad in the bad list, it obviously means the bitter is sweet to your teeth and gums.
8. Oranges
Most citrus are acidic which may not be best on contact with your teeth but oranges are the least, and packed with vitamin C needed by your teeth and gums to fight disease. But your must take with caution because it contains sugar too. If taken in excess, the effect may be negative.

Definitely this low calorie nutrient dense fruit cannot be left out. It is a storehouse of vitamin A and other nutrients that keeps your teeth strong. No wonder, some kids start learning to chew by biting on fresh carrots first as their first line of using the teeth to chew.

Fermented foods occasionally in our diet are a great way to maintain strong teeth and gum. Some like yorghut, millet pap, locust beans, soyabeans, cassava flour etc. Too much of fermented foods however may give a negative effect due to the presence live bacteria already existing through the fermentation process.
